Department of Employment and Labour
The Department of Employment and Labour (formerly the Department of Labour) is the South African government department responsible for administering and enforcing the OHS Act 85 of 1993 (Occupational Health and Safety Act) and associated regulations in commercial and industrial workplaces. In the pest control context, the DoEL enforces workplace safety requirements that create demand for professional pest management — particularly rodent and cockroach control in manufacturing, food processing and warehouse environments where pest activity creates OHS violations. Employers found in breach of OHS standards can face fines and operational stoppages, creating non-discretionary demand for documented pest control programmes.
