Alireza Tangsiri

Alireza Tangsiri was the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and the officer most directly responsible for Iran’s enforcement of the Strait of Hormuz closure. He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on March 26, 2026. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz publicly stated that Tangsiri was “directly responsible for the Strait of Hormuz closure” and that his killing was part of Israel’s campaign to degrade Iran’s ability to restrict the waterway.
