QatarEnergy

QatarEnergy is Qatar’s state energy company and one of the world’s largest LNG exporters, with about 9.3 billion cubic feet/day of LNG transiting the Strait of Hormuz in 2024. On March 2, 2026, QatarEnergy stopped gas production. On March 4, it declared force majeure on all gas contracts. Qatar’s energy minister warned that the war could force Gulf producers to halt exports entirely, which he said “will bring down economies of the world.” The LNG shutdown compounded the fertilizer crisis, as natural gas is the primary input for nitrogen fertilizer production.
