PIAMA

PIAMA (Prevention and Incidence of Asthma and Mite Allergy) is a Dutch birth cohort. Paternoster et al. (JACI 2018) used 3,652 of its children, followed to age 11, to replicate the six eczema trajectory classes found in ALSPAC. In PIAMA, eczema prevalence fell only slightly, from 18% in the first year to 14% at 11 years. FLG mutations were tied mainly to the early-onset-late-resolving class. It matters for toddler eczema because its replication makes the trajectory classes more credible.
