Choosing Wisely

Choosing Wisely was an ABIM Foundation campaign (2012–2023) in which specialty societies listed commonly overused tests. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology’s 2012 list said not to run an indiscriminate battery of IgE tests or IgG tests, because food skin and blood tests often come back positive in people without food allergy. Its 2014 item, ‘Don’t perform food IgE testing without a history consistent with potential IgE-mediated food allergy’, applies directly to toddlers with eczema.
