Dermatological Society of South Africa
The Dermatological Society of South Africa (DSSA) is the national body for dermatologists. In 2008 a five-member DSSA working group (Sinclair, Aboobaker, Jordaan, Modi, Todd) published consensus guidelines on atopic dermatitis in adolescents and adults in the SAMJ, circulating drafts through the society’s website. Dermatologists from the same group led the 2014/15 all-ages South African guideline. South Africa had about 171 certified dermatologists in 2019, the most in sub-Saharan Africa, but most patients still have no access to one.
