Neomycin

Neomycin, like bacitracin, is a topical antibiotic sold over the counter in some countries, often in ‘triple antibiotic’ ointments that parents may put on scratched or infected eczema. It has been one of the top paediatric contact allergens for decades. Patch-test reactions can appear as late as 3 weeks, so a delayed reading may be needed (Tam & Yu 2022). It is relevant to Infected Eczema, where repeated self-treatment can add contact allergy on top of infection.
