Engineers Australia
Engineers Australia is the professional organisation representing engineers in Australia and acts as the Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) authority for engineering occupations under Australian skilled migration programs. South African engineers targeting the Australia Skills in Demand Visa or points-based pathways must obtain a positive skills assessment from Engineers Australia. The key insight for SA engineers is the Accord pathway: South Africa is a signatory to both the Sydney Accord (3-year engineering technology degrees) and the Dublin Accord (engineering technician qualifications). Accord-recognised qualifications are assessed at AUD 1,001 — nearly half the cost with less documentation.
The CDR pathway (for engineers not covered by an international Accord) requires three Career Episode reports (~1,500–2,500 words each) documenting personal engineering contributions, a Summary Statement cross-referencing competency elements, and a CPD record. Processing takes 8–16 weeks. Engineers Australia updated its competency standards in 2025; submissions following outdated formats face higher rejection rates.
