SIHMA

The Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHMA) is a research institute based in Cape Town focused on migration studies in Africa. SIHMA publishes South African emigration statistics, including data showing that approximately 120,000 South African professional qualification holders have emigrated — representing about 7% of the country’s professional workforce, which is more than 8 times the number of equivalent professionals immigrating to South Africa in the same period. This professional brain drain data underpins the demand case for the Work Abroad Pathway Intelligence product.
