Duduzane Zuma
Duduzane Zuma (born 20 May 1984) is the son of former President Jacob Zuma and his most prominent business associate during the state capture era. He served as business liaison between the Gupta Family and the Zuma family, holding directorships at more than 11 Gupta-owned companies simultaneously, including Sahara Computers, Oakbay Investments and JIC Mining Services. Bloomberg described him as central to the Guptas’ ability to “influence cabinet appointments and illicitly secure state contracts worth billions.”
Gupta connection: Duduzane began his relationship with the Guptas through Sahara Computers — the family’s original South African IT business. As his father’s political power grew post-2009, Duduzane became the key interface between the Gupta business empire and the Zuma presidency. He testified at the Zondo Commission in 2019, describing Rajesh Gupta as “my guy.” Zuma’s third wife and one daughter were also employed by Gupta entities at various times.
Jonas bribe allegation: The defining Duduzane Zuma corruption allegation centres on an October 2015 meeting at the Gupta compound in Saxonwold, Johannesburg. Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas subsequently alleged that at this meeting — attended by Duduzane, Ajay Gupta and businessman Fana Hlongwane — he was offered the position of Finance Minister (to replace Nhlanhla Nene, who was dismissed that December in “Nene Gate”) and a bribe of R600 million. Jonas refused. Duduzane was charged with corruption for his alleged role in this meeting. Ajay Gupta, who fled to Dubai in 2018, remains at large. Duduzane denied all wrongdoing.
Dubai years (2018–2024): After Zuma’s ouster in February 2018, Duduzane moved to Dubai — the same city where the Gupta brothers had fled. He stated publicly he had “made his money” and lived lavishly, including skydiving, jet-skiing and sailing. He noted he could not access the South African banking system, which he cited as his primary reason for remaining in the UAE. He contested the ANC’s National Executive Committee elections in December 2022 but did not win a seat.
Return to politics: Duduzane returned to South Africa in March 2024, shortly before the May 2024 general election. He announced the formation of the “All Game Changers” movement, positioning himself as a business-friendly, youth-oriented alternative. He said he opposed welfare grants to non-elderly, non-marginalised citizens and favoured free education. Unlike his father — who aligned with uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party — Duduzane’s party had no material 2024 electoral success.
Manslaughter acquittal: In 2014, Duduzane was involved in a car accident in Johannesburg in which a woman was killed. He was charged with attempted manslaughter; a court acquitted him in 2020.
