Exit Countdown Markers
Exit countdown markers (IN1–IN3) show three, two and one diagonal bars at 300, 200 and 100 metres before a freeway exit, letting drivers prepare to leave at speed. They are information signs with no command. Related to the Freeway Direction Sign.
Meaning
Count down the distance to a freeway exit — 300 m, 200 m, then 100 m.
Required driver response
Prepare to exit at road speed; move to the exit lane in good time.
Question patterns
- “What does this sign tell you?” — recognition of guidance/information role.
- “Is this a command or just guidance?” — class disambiguation.
- Distractor trap: reading the bars as a speed or lane number rather than a distance countdown.
