Xpresso Menu Products

Xpresso Café’s entire menu operates on a single flat price — R14 per item as of October 2024 (R10 at launch 2016, R12 from October 2021). The menu spans both beverages and food, creating a full takeaway café experience at a uniform price point that is roughly one-third of what premium SA coffee chains charge.

Beverages include freshly brewed espresso-based coffees (espresso, cappuccino, latte, etc.), hot chocolates, and cold slushies. Coffees are made by trained baristas using beans sourced from the company’s own Jackass Roastery, giving the franchisor direct control over coffee quality and cost.

Food items include pastries, pies, doughnuts, and sandwiches — all baked fresh daily. The company explicitly differentiates itself on portion size: “Every product we have is huge. It is not a small, high-tea item just because it’s priced lower” (Nicolene Elhadad, EWN 2026). Since approximately February 2025, food items are supplied by the company’s own food factory in Cape Town, addressing prior quality inconsistency from third-party bakers and enabling geographic expansion beyond bakery delivery zones.

The uniform pricing model means Xpresso has no premium tier or upsell pathway — revenue per transaction is capped at R14. This concentrates all revenue growth on transaction volume, reinforcing the critical importance of achieving and maintaining 500–1,000 customers per store per day. Margin management therefore depends entirely on cost control at the input level: supplier negotiation, vertical integration (own factory + own roastery), and operational efficiency.
