Yield Sign

Yield is the single most-tested confusion in the learner’s test: unlike the Stop Sign, it only requires a stop if necessary. The inverted-triangle shape is unique to yielding.

Meaning

Downward-pointing (apex-down) triangle, white with a red border.

Required driver response

Slow down, be prepared to stop, and give right of way to traffic and pedestrians already in or approaching the junction; you need not stop if the way is clear.

Question patterns

  • “What does this sign mean?” — recognition of meaning.
  • “What must you do when you see this sign?” — required response.
  • Distractor trap: stopping unnecessarily, or treating it like a stop sign (always stopping).
