Code A Motorcycle
Code A (with the light sub-code A1) is the South African motorcycle licence code, corresponding to the old learner Code 1. A1 covers motorcycles up to 125 cc; A covers motorcycles above 125 cc. The learner’s-test difference is in the Vehicle Controls section, which assesses motorcycle controls rather than car controls.
Scope
- Applies to: Motorcycles, motor tricycles and quadrucycles. A1 = ≤125 cc; A = >125 cc.
- Minimum age: 16 (≤125 cc) / 18 (>125 cc) per gov.za
- Control scope: Throttle/twist grip, clutch lever, front brake lever, rear brake foot pedal, foot gear lever, indicator switch, handlebars, mirrors
