Head Restraint

The head restraint (headrest) is a safety device that must be correctly positioned to prevent whiplash. It is not part of the official Section 3 numbered controls, so it is tagged alleged here. Related to the Seatbelt.

Purpose

Limits rearward head movement to reduce whiplash in a rear-end collision.

When used

Adjusted so its top is level with the top of the head before driving.

Risks of incorrect use

  • Increased neck/whiplash injury if set too low
