South African Learner Driver Manual (NaTIS)

The official South African Learner Driver Manual, issued by the Department of Transport and distributed via NaTIS/eNaTIS. It is the canonical syllabus for the learner’s licence test, split into three numbered sections: (1) Rules of the Road, (2) Road Signs, Signals and Road Markings, and (3) Vehicle Components and Controls (Section 3, v1.00, June 2012). The controls section is component-identification based — it numbers 9 motorcycle controls and 11 light/heavy-vehicle controls and asks ‘which numbered control does X’.

Use in wiki

  • Source of confirmed syllabus content: control identities, the mirror-first rule, motorcycle front-brake/stop-lamp link, and the ‘automatics have no clutch’ fact.
  • Restriction: government publication, free to view/download for study; commercial redistribution prohibited. No CC/PD open licence. Do not reproduce wholesale.

Extraction notes

  • Extracted the Section 3 numbered control taxonomy and the three-section test structure. No proprietary question bank copied — control facts synthesised, sample-question wording avoided.
